Clifford Boggess did show promise with his artistic abilitilies and passion to one day see the works of famous artist around the world, although that never happened for him. It's hard to say that he hasn't changed, but it doesn't take away from the crimes he's committed. I find it really interesting he developed a secret talent while in jail that became an outlet for him to cope with his loneliness. I've always wondered if someone on death row could be released based on their progress during jail time. On the other hand, these inmates are on death row for a terrible crime, even though many inmates on death row have been proven innocent. From watching several cases, death row has been exposed of it's many flaws such as racial bias, unfair trials, or new evidence gathered proving innocence for several cases. I believe that even though Clifford Boggess appeared to be a changed man, it doesn't take away from the crime he committed. I think that it's great he developed a talent and a religious connection but, I find this personal liberation to be too late for him to get a second chance.
For our previous presentation of death penalty cases, my partner and I were the defense for Leslie Gosch, and his case was really interesting. Being put into the execution chamber twice does hinder him, psychologically. To prepare twice for death can be mentally exhausting, and a form of torture. Many pieces of evidence pointed to his innocence. In the video he was wearing very thick glasses, because he's legally blind and his hands were severely damaged from an accident when he was a teenager. This all made it seem very hard for him to committ murder. His disabilities were never taken into account during his trial and no witnesses were presented. This case made it hard for me to believe in capital punishment because cases such as Gosch's, weren't presented well and the lack of experienced lawyers make it impossible for these inmates to have recieved a fair trial. There are too many flaws within this system to allow me to believe in it.
